5 Easy Steps to Stay Fit and Healthy Amidst this Pandemic

In this time of pandemic, people tend to feel lazy and unmotivated, and because of those factors people end up being unproductive. Now that most of us stay at home 24/7, because of WFH jobs and online classes; the routine that we have changes overtime. Some of us have no time for exercising and eating healthy foods. Let’s be reminded that, even though we stay at home far from the virus we still need to work on ourselves to have a strong body and mind. Here are 5 ways to abandon our toxic lifestyle and change our lifestyle for the better.

1. Proper Sleep

Having discipline is significant, because it is the first level for you to achieve change. It can be clearly seen in your sleeping pattern or routine. Getting enough sleep is one way to gain energy, have a good mood, improve memory, boost the immune system etc. Sleeping according to your age is a must. Here’s the table of the age and recommended time of sleep that you must keep in mind.

Getting the right amount of sleep based on your age is already known to be important for growth especially for kids. But now with the pandemic that continuously tests our immune system, enough sleep is also a way to gain strength and protection from the virus. Some studies even say that lack of sleep might be correlated to getting infected with covid as this declines our immune system and cell regeneration process. You can learn more by researching about this but one thing is for sure, sleep is important!

2. Home Workouts / Exercises

When you sleep early at night, you should also wake up early in the morning, for you to be productive the whole day. The best way to awaken your spirit in the morning is by stretching. After you stretch you can also do some simple workout routines like jumping jacks, push ups, squats, shoulder press, curl ups, etc. You can also watch some YouTube videos for beginners which usually lasts for 3-5 minutes. There are plenty of exercises that you can do at home; there are also do-it-yourself equipment that you can try like using pillows, chairs, and water bottles.

Aside from getting energy on a morning workout, exercising is a great way to stay fit and lose fats. Most people gained weight due to the pandemic, with all the lockdowns and lack of activities. So if you’re one of them, this is your sign to start working out and lose that weight!

Don’t worry, if you’re not a morning person, studies say that working out is effective when you’re most ready to do it even in the evening. So whichever time you prefer, consistency is key! Go on and start getting fit and healthy today.

3. Eating Right Amount of Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

After you do your light workouts at home I’m sure that your body will ask for food, because of the sweat and energy that came out of your body. Breakfast is known to be the most important meal of the day, that's why we should have that in our daily routine. Breakfast starts the rotation of the energy and nutrients in our system, for us to concentrate and do our jobs accordingly. Lunch and dinner are significant just like breakfast, we should eat at the right time and eat enough food to keep our body fit, healthy, and far from illness. Remember that “you are what you eat”, so make sure to eat healthy foods like fruits and vegetables.

4. Proper Hygiene

Having proper hygiene is also part of being healthy, because we also need to take good care of our physical appearance, which leads us in having a healthy body. Especially in this time of pandemic, we need to strictly and regularly clean ourselves to avoid catching the virus. Proper hygiene such as; taking a bath everyday, brushing your teeth, combing your hair, washing your hands, cutting your nails, changing your clothes, etc. are ways to keep our body clean and healthy. We have to keep those in mind, because viruses can be anywhere, so let’s be conscious of ourselves and surroundings.

5. Have a Regular Check-up

We should not forget to have our health checked by the doctors. This should be part of our routine and even budget. Annual check-ups such as; dental, physical test, urine test, blood test, eye check-up, etc. is very important, because it scans our body thoroughly. In this way we will be able to see the overall status of our body, whether we will need a maintenance or if we need serious treatment. This reminder is for all ages, especially for elderly. Have your health checked regularly, because prevention is better than cure.

There are many ways to make your body healthy and strong in this pandemic. Always remember that even if we are in the middle of a crisis, the Lord will not forsake us. Take the following steps to get in shape and overcome the problem we face today. Start the change within yourself, and try to influence other people, to live life in a healthy way.
