Traditionally licensed to aid rheumatic pains but many people use it to support the kidneys. Spring is a great time to include a little nettle leaf as our bodies naturally want to detox Winter congestion. The Young nettle tops can be added to soups, used like spinach, or made into an infusion. Best to choose the young leaves and consume them before the plant produces seed. Boiling the leaves removes the sting too, just be careful picking them. As always, check if this humble weed is suitable for you before consuming it.

The humble nettle. I find this is a great kidney tonic and nutrition boost. The nettle tops (before they flower) are perfectly added into soups, used as a seasonal substitute for spinach, or like me and enjoying a glass of nettle leaf tea, fresh from the garden.

Nettle leaf for dogs? Nettle leaf is considered safe by the European Medicines Agency. There are limited studies on plant chemicals, especially when it comes to dogs so I use common sense. I am a big believer that nature provides us with what we need seasonally. My guys enjoy a couple of cooked leaves now and again, to support the kidneys at a time when the body naturally wants to cleanse. And of course, to supply some nourishing ‘green energy’ and antioxidants.

Always check if a herb is safe for you personally; especially if you suffer from a medical condition/allergies/taking medication.

As always, speak to your medical doctor before starting any natural remedy. There are some herbs that may reduce the efficacy of pharmaceutical drugs. The statements shown have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration.
