HOW TO MAKE DIY PAROL?
You'll need one additional stick to cut five short pegs from in addition to a total of 10 sticks cut to your preferred length to build two complete stars.
THIS IS THE MATERIALS THAT YOU NEED FOR YOUR DIY PAROL
* Bamboo or balsa wood sticks (I used six 3' by 1/2" balsa sticks)
* Glue gun or craft glue
* tissue or a cellophane bag
* rubber bands
TOOLS
* Scissors
STAR PAROL
1. To make DIY Parol Start the star point construction by joining two sticks together to form a "v" shape. Use a rubber band to secure the point (do not glue!). Repeat this to create two sets of interconnected "v's."
2. The points of the two "v" shapes should be pointing up as you cross them to create a new "A" shape. Rubber bands are used to join the open end.
3. One single-length stick is all that is needed to complete the star shape. Attach rubber bands to each open end. Make any necessary adjustments to the star's shape until you are satisfied to your DIY Parol.
4. To make another identical star form with the sticks, just follow the previous instructions.
5. Stack the stars such that they precisely match up with one another. By encircling each of the five spots with rubber bands, you may join the two layers together. Make cautious not to wrap the bands too tightly; they must be able to bend to enable for the insertion of the pegs in the following stage. My bands were just snug enough so they wouldn't pop off when I double-wrapped them.
6. Make sure every peg you cut from your extra stick is the same length and then cut 5 short sticks (pegs) from it. Depending on the material used to make your sticks, these pegs might range in size from 2 to 5 inches. Stick to a shorter length if utilizing a soft, delicate wood, such as balsa. You should be able to stretch your star's flexibility a little further if you choose a tougher wood, like bamboo. Based on the flexibility of the balsa and the tightness of the rubber bands, I ultimately decided to trim my pegs down to roughly 2.5′′.
7. Pry the layers apart with care, then place a peg into each pentagon corner. Each peg should be held in place by the resistance of the rubber bands, but it's a good idea to glue them down with craft or hot glue.
8. Leave the sides of the star unadorned so that light can pass through it. Decorate each side with craft supplies, tissue paper, or cellophane.
This is the First step for How to make DIY Parol. For your DIY Parol tail the tools used are still the same as in the first step.
FOR THE PAROL TAIL
1. Start by folding a big 2 or more sheet of tissue paper or creep paper into a triangle.
2. Minimize the size of the triangle.
3. Once more, fold to create a smaller triangle.
4. As seen in the image below, take the triangle's top tip, which is at the bottom right corner, and fold it over to the other side.
5. Cut cuts in the open side that are about 1 inch apart and 1 inch from the folded edge.
6. Avoid tearing the paper as you unfold.
7. Make a hole the size of a quarter in a button or a little circular piece of cardboard, then insert a piece of wire (a twist tie works wonderfully) or thread through it.
8. The paper should hang around the cutout like a dress would around a hoop skirt. The top point of the paper when folded should be the center of the circular cutout inside the parol. Feed the wire through the top.
9. Wrap the wires through the center of the two layered stars to secure the tail to the star's bottom tip.
10. Make a second tail and suspend it from the star's opposite bottom point. You can choose how much or how little to embellish the star. Some people want to embellish each star's tip with numerous layers and hues of tail.
