Why should I segregate my waste property?

First of all we should segregate our waste property and must support waste segregation for a variety of reasons, including legal duties, economic savings, and preservation of human health and for environment.

Almost every location you visit they will have some sort of trash separation because all local authorities undertake kerbside it may help them to segregate waste property, In the mall they promote sustainability and being responsible for solid waste management and the proper disposal of plastic waste among consumers and communities, even In office may have Dry recyclable waste such as paper, plastic, cardboard, bubble-wrap etc. and Wet biodegradable waste, such as food waste etc. In the school also have segregation of waste including the separating, reducing, reusing, recycling and composting are good options for managing school waste and even your home should have some type of trash segregation.

The first reason why we need segregate our waste because it is mandated by law, you must segregate paper, cardboard, plastic, metal, and glass at the source under the Waste Regulations 2011, (L.N. 184 of 2011) These Regulations aim at protecting human health and the environment by preventing or reducing the adverse impacts of waste management and generation. (FAO, FAOLEX, 2011).

The waste should be implemented in accordance with the same regulations and these are reduce, reuse, recycle, other recovery, and disposal. And we must obey the law because it’s illegal to break the law and be a responsible citizens because it is because in our safety.

The other reason is the effectiveness of waste segregation implies that less garbage is disposed of in landfills, which is less expensive and better for people and the environment. Segregation of waste is also necessary for public health reasons. We can get Hazardous waste items such as batteries, electrical appliances, light bulbs and electronics should be labelled accordingly to make it easier to recycle them. (Axil Integrated Services Limited, 2018 – 2022)

In particular, it can create long-term health problems, so it is Important to disposed of waste properly and safely, rather than mixed in with the regular trash from your house or business. It can help the environment more clean and fresh air.

Segregate our waste at home daily is also important to start practices, literate a person or even your families about segregation of our waste is very helpful to our environment and even in Local municipal corporations advise residents to take responsibility for the rubbish they generate at home. Citizens like us are responsible for sorting waste into three distinct categories such as wet, dry, and hazardous, according to the Waste Regulations 2011. Segregate waste at home, it may help the waste picker or disposal workers like working in kerbside company to get easier to tell what is degradable components from the non-biodegradable ones.

Degradable waste is organic in its contents and does not cause harm to the earth. Non-biodegradable waste damages the environment, and increases the pollution load on the earth and generally becomes a nuisance. However, its inorganic nature makes it good for recycling units and that’s where it should be headed. Of course, you don’t need to search for a recycling unit. The local kabadiwala or scrap dealer will do. These people are an essential part of the recycling chain.(Kasmin Fernandes – October 26, 2020).

Educating your families, friends and relatives or even people around you is very helpful to have correct waste disposal in your village or workplace is not just about creating waste policies but also about educating or give them a knowledge about how’s important to segregate our waste to help our environment from pollution in landfills and to our healthcare to prevent getting the hazardous materials from our waste.

In businesses also have a proper segregation of their waste and as a manager they should be a good example to their employees and encourage them to recycle on regular basis and to reuse no matter what to save the business money by the cost of waste disposal. Proper segregation of in business or company gives them a benefits including;

Lower Waste Cost

Mixing waste streams can be costly. Hazardous waste and general waste are far more expensive to dispose of than dry mixed recycling due to chemicals and biological contamination. Mixing clean recyclable items with hazardous waste means you’re paying more to dispose of your waste.

Increased Recycling Rate

Waste segregation practices and a workforce that understand the importance of segregation waste prevents suitable for recycling from being thrown away with general waste .It is important to help the kerbside what is recycled bin and separate it in wet waste.

Potential Revenue Stream

Waste segregation enables you to identify valuable materials such as metals, cardboard and plastics and sell them to achieve the highest available rebate value.

Reduced Landfill Impact

Segregating your waste allows your business to recycle more items, preventing them from ending up in landfills and its reduces your overall impact on the environment. We all

know that our Landfill is full of waste so it’s help the environment to reduce the pollution.

Conclusion and Recommendations

We must follow the segregation of waste property and safely because it helps the economic savings specially to the business it less the cost of waste disposal and for our public health reasons it may help to prevent to get the Hazardous materials come in waste that is why we should segregate our waste property to help the waste picker or disposal worker to easily determine what kinds of waste in the bin. I recommend to use cotton tote bags or eco bags and not using plastic bags because it is very harmful to our environment, we can start the Segregation of our waste at home and Literate our families or relatives even our neighbors to have a proper segregation of waste to be a good example or responsible citizens in our town and we must follow the law for our safety a have a good environment and less pollution to get a fresh air and water.
